Pickup and Supplies

The Lab of Path, PA has a courier system, which services primarily Arkansas and Missouri. Clinics and hospitals should contact the lab and inquire when the pick-up will be for their specific location. Third party commercial carriers are utilized by the Lab of Path, PA, and individuals submitting specimens must follow federal guidelines when submitting packages to the laboratory. Proper shipping materials are provided by the Lab of Path, PA along with a packing slip for those clients that mail their specimens directly to the lab. Contingency Plan For Specimen Pick-up When Weather Conditions or Other Problems Prohibit Routine Courier Transportation

On rare occasions weather or other conditions prohibit routine courier transportation of specimens. If the specimen has been fixed in formalin, alcohol or air-dried, it can be stored until routine courier systems resume. Body fluid specimens under 100 ml should be fixed with CytoLyt™ (1:1) and stored at room temperature until routine courier systems resume. Body fluid specimens over 100ml should be stored in refrigeration until routine courier systems resume.

Supplies

The Lab of Path, PA provides specimen collection and preservation supplies to its clients. The following supplies are provided directly to referring physicians:

Non – Gyn Cytology Supplies

Cytology specimen containers for Non-Gynecological specimens and urine containers which are pre-filled with CytoLyt™ fixative.

Thin Prep Collection Kits

Cytyc Thin Prep® supplies include collection vials and cytobrush or broom. Any questions regarding the Thin Prep can be directed to a Client Service Representative.

Viral Medial Vials

M 4 vials are provided for virus specimen collection. These vials have a short shelf life so use accordingly.

Surgical Biopsy Collection Vials

30 ml. biopsy containers with 10% neutral buffered formalin are provided as the standard size for all clinics. Larger and smaller containers are provided on an as-needed basis.

Additional Supplies

For those clinics or hospitals performing more esoteric type tests offered by the laboratory, specific collection devices are provided. These devices include test tubes for Flow Cytometry, urine containers for Urine Cytology, or other Non-Gyn collection containers.
